RICARDS III AKLA ZARNA
Based on Richard III by Shakespeare, the show is a reflection on Power and the representation of Power: how media with the logic of being sensational vitiates – corrupts, depraves- the political debate.
It depicts the struggles of the famous-infamous Richard, Duke of Gloucester, but also examine the little “Richards” inside us. How, in different magnitude, we can all be “evil” and manipulate someone else for personal ambitions.
Which leads to the fact that in the play by Shakespeare, “acting” is a way to deceive and to manipulate. We can then wonder then, what is the essence of theater? a place for uncovering truth or a place for deception?
By going to theater do we learn to empathize with the life of someone else and in this sense understand some “truth” or do we merely learn how to mask our emotion and thus to manipulate someone else?
The show is produced by the Latvian Cultural Academy and has premiered on October 1st at “Zirgu Past” in Riga.
